LEGAL ASSISTANT & OFFICE MANAGER

JOB DESCRIPTION

QUALIFICATIONS

Morisset Schlosser Jozwiak & Somerville is a 4-attorney firm specializing in the practice of Federal Indian Law. We are seeking an experienced and organized individual to serve as Legal Assistant & Office Manager in our Downtown Seattle office on a contract basis. Initial contract term is a minimum of 9-months and has the potential for extension or permanent placement.

A full compensation package including generous health, transportation (Orca), and other fringe benefits will be provided for the right candidate.

  • Paralegal Certificate OR Bachelor’s degree with related experience (the right combination of skills and experience may substitute for qualifying education).

  • 2 years of experience in a law firm environment or legal field preferred; Experience in complex litigation preferred; Must have knowledge of court rules. 

​

  • Proficiency with MS Office 365.

​

  • Experience with: Clio(!) , Time Matters, Juris, or other legal time and billing software.

​

  • Demonstrates the potential to be flexible, resourceful, positive, and disciplined in supporting attorneys.

​

  • Experience with WestLaw, Pacer, ECF, and all other industry standard tools preferred. 

​

  • Self-starter, highly motivated with ability to take initiative and move projects forward.

​

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, proofreading, formatting and typing skills--ability to multitask required. 

​

  • Strong customer Service skills.

​

  • Comfortable working independently, without hands-on supervision.

​

  • Strong work ethic with commitment to developing new skills and helping the firm grow.

​

  • Proven project management and organizational skills. Must be VERY organized and able to maintain a clean and orderly work environment.

  • The successful candidate will have the highest standards of personal and professional ethics and integrity.

RESPONSIBILITIES

A successful candidate for this role will provide both legal support and office management. 

​

Legal Support:

  • Act as lead paralegal, provide general legal support and all necessary administrative support to attorneys. 

​​

  • Provide litigation support, including: Case management, meeting organization, electronic court filings and related tasks as required by case/courts, routine legal research, cite checking, assembly and organization of case notebooks and discovery.

 

  • Comprehensive document production and organization, including transcription from dictation and extensive word processing (including Tables of Authority, citations, TOC, and legal editing). Candidate MUST be an expert with MS word and document processing.

  • Update and maintain client files, create and maintain sub-file system, manage sub-file indices. Perform all filing for all attorneys.

​

  • Assistance in culling files in storage, digitizing historical legal documents.

 

Office Management & Firm Administration:

  • Administrative support for billing, filing, and coordination of misc. office events and special projects.

​ 

  • General management of office systems, including processing client requests, equipment management, maintaining firm calendar and additional standard administrative tasks. 

​

  • Coordinate and provide logistical support for all travel, meeting, and event arrangements. Create related expense reports and itineraries.

​

  • Day-to-day firm/office management, including client interactions, mail distribution, internal data management, field phone calls, standard daily housekeeping tasks, etc. 

​​

  • Interact with vendors and clients as necessary.

​

  • Assist with general maintenance and management of the Firm’s website and online presence, including posting firm publications, news articles, and other featured content.
